Now that the weather has warmed up a bit, the fish in the Inlet have sprung to life. We've been hitting some big Reds and Keeper Black Drum pretty consistently. The big Monster Drum haven't arrived yet and it's looking like we'll be getting a later arrival than we have been in the past. There haven't been any reports of Giant Drum catches in St. Augustine yet. Any day now we should start hearing about them being caught in Vilano. I suspect that they will arrive in another week or two. But for now, the keeper sized Drum are getting pretty thick in the Inlet. Especially on the inside of the submerged north row. The incoming tide has been best.
The big Reds have been thick out there as well. Dana caught her first Red today and it was a honker! 55 inches! That is definitely the biggest Red I've ever seen. She was stoked and her family was very excited about it. As they should be! What a fish! I had a father and son come out for a trip during the weekend and they also got a few first ever Bulls. The bite was slower with the Full Moon the night before but, they were still happy and made lasting memories. Dad got to see his son hold a bruiser Red. Pretty sure I haven't seen the last of either of these families. The kids will bring em back soon because they are hooked!
The Reds and the Drum have been chewing but the usual Blue Crabs have not been producing for us. Believe it or not, we can only seem to get these fish to eat Shrimp. We are getting the occasional taker on the Crab but the consistent bite has been primarily on Shrimp. The same rigging as in most of my reports, hand tied Dropper rigs made up of 40 pound mono, 6/0 Owner Circle Hooks and 6-12oz Bank Sinkers.
Good luck out there guys, catch em up!
The fish was too heavy for her so she had a relative pose with the fish for her lol.
