About a year ago I was going through the settings on my Youtube channel trying to figure out how to rename my channel when i stumbled across an "Inbox" link. I had no idea there was an Inbox attached to my Youtube account. I clicked on it and the first message I see says "From: Bill Dance Outdoors". I read the message and it turns out Bill Dance had his personal assistant contact me to find out if I would like to film a show with him for Bull Reds in Jacksonville. Bad news is the message was almost two months old. I called them and found out that they already had the calender filled for the season. Missed my window.... 8 months pass and I get a call directly from Bill and he asks if I was still interested in filming a show, and you know, I was all over it.
We filmed for 3 days. All 3 of which were calling for a 70% chance of rain. There would be a cold front moving in by day 2 and seas were expected to get rough. They did.... It was already bad enough that it isn't exactly Bull Red season right now but now I have to find Bull Reds and in large numbers... We ran with the punches and did our best. The first day we got 5 along with a big ole gnarly Sandbar Shark, roughly 120 pounds. He hooks this thing with a Bass rod(he insisted on going light tackle, there was no talking him out of it), it breaks the rod, he decides to keep going and 20 minutes later he lands it! He and I both were stoked. This was a monumental feat and he pulled it off. Day 2 we got 7 Bulls. The weather was terrible and the front was on top of us all day. Those 7 Bulls were a blessing given the circumstances. Day 3, today, we managed 4 Bulls, 1 8 pound Sheepshead and a nice Drum. Not too shabby given the conditions.
We got enough footage to put together 2 episodes. We wont see them air for a year unfortunately. Bill says it takes time with the volume of material they put together. The same editors put together the Fresh and saltwater series stuff so they have their work cut out for them.
This was the experience of a life time. I grew up watching Bill Dance Outdoors and the man was a hero for me as a kid. I never would have imagined in my wildest dreams that I would be blessed with the opportunity to put the King of Bass on the fish. That's a huge check off the bucket list!
We were entirely too busy to take photos but thankfully, I had an amazing friend step up and take photos for me. And run around with my boat putting Tim(the camera man) in various positions for shots, Pull anchor constantly, gas the boat, keep my scatter brain in check, chauffeur Bill and the crew around town, and on and on and on.... He really kept it together and pulled off some trying complications. Not to mention missing 3 days of work. Nothing but respect for this guy, Mr. Pillinjunky. Thanks for all the great work buddy. Another Big thank you to Tammy and my wife Anna for putting together an amazing party. Bill really enjoyed it.
